Vermont police nab man with large cocaine stashBRATTLEBORO, Vermont -- Vermont State Police arrested a Williamstown, Vermont man for possession of cocaine on Monday evening after he attempted to elude Vermont troopers.
David A. Funk, 34, was traveling north on I-91 in a Dodge pickup when police attempted to stop him for speeding, Trooper Eric Albright said. Funk failed to yeild to police and a chase ensued. Vermont police reportedly observed Funk throwing a package out his passenger window, while traveling over the Williams Street overpass, Albright said. A short time later, Funk was apprehended by police on Western Avenue without incident. Vermont police recovered the package Funk allegedly threw and determined it contained approximately 1.25 pounds of cocaine, which has an estimated street value of $45,000 in Vermont, Albright said.
Vermont state police charged Funk with driving wih a suspended license and attempting to elude police. The Northern Vermont Drug Task Force charged Funk with possession of cocaine recovered, Albright said.
Funk was arraigned in the U.S. Federal Court in Burlington on Tuesday for possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and will be detained pending a trial, deputy court clerk Jeff Jarvis said.
"Until he is or isn't indicted by a grand jury, there are no other dates set yet," Jarvis said
At his arraignment, Funk requested that the court appoint an attorney. The case was relegated to the federal office of the public defender, Jarvis said. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Gerber is prosecuting the case.
Funk will answer the other charges in the Windsor District Court at a later date, Albright said. Drug Rehab by County
